On Saturday September 4th, Streetjesus.net hosted it’s first ever skate event at the Skate Plaza in Regina, SK.

The event was conceived and thrown together fairly last minute, based on the fact that Tyler and myself were actually going to be in the same city for two whole days. With a good friend being married on Sunday, and the two of us needing to be at that wedding gettin real weird on the dance floor, this meant that Saturday was the only day this thing could go down.

It went down.

Despite being a bit windy, the ground stayed dry, and the kids came out and skated hard. On top of mini-jams throughout the day, we held three main jam sessions:

Kicker Jam: The Regina kids are getting really good at skating that kicker… that’s for sure. Austin Welter took the win by stomping a Cab 180 Kickflip, snapping the tail of his board, and then turning his board around and landing a broken board 360 Flip, and a broken board Double Kickflip. We gave him a new board, naturally. Honourable mentions were Mitch Serbu who made a Nollie Backside Flip and a Nollie Big Spin, Cody Vollman who put down a huge Pop Shuvit Tailgrab, and Preston Laschuk who had a nice Cab 360.

Ledge Jam: Here we were looking for grinds and mannys. Cody Vollman landed a bunch of stuff, including a 5-0 to Tailslide, Pop Shuvit Nosegrind, Manual to Pop Shuvit out, and a few others. Me and Ty awarded consistency on this one, and gave Cody the win. Mitch Serbu got a Kickflip Back Tail, and Brady Lockert got a Backside Nosegrind on the high ledge… they were our two honourable mentions.

Grass Gap Jam: The grand finale of the event was a throw down session on the large and small grass gaps. 306′s Jeffrey Reitmeier landed a Frontside 180 over the large gap for the win (if you’ve never been to the Plaza, it’s really big… barely anyone skates it). Mad props to Brady Lockert who was trying Backside 180 over the big gap, but was never able to make it… that sesh looked painful dude. On the smaller gap, Mitch Serbu made his 360 Flip, making him a runner-up for the third time in the same event, and Taylor Mabbott was also hooked up for putting down a super gangst-ass Heelflip.

So that pretty much sums up the skateboarding… aside from that, it was just a super fun day all around. Thanks to everyone who came out and skated or just hung out with us and crushed Vitamin Water, we appreciate it! I would advise everyone to get some practice at the Plaza, because you can bet that we’ll be back with more swagga and way more on the line next year… and I promise we will not lose focus on what’s important at skate events… THE SKATEBOARDING. Let me end by saying that it was SUPER good to see everyone, we love you guys… see you next year.

We have a lot of people to thank:

Ed Lachelt, Greg Jackson and Chad Albert at Element Skateboards – thank you so much for your continued support! / Nicole Romanoff at Vitamin Water – thank you for keeping us skateboarders hydrated! We look forward to working with you again! / our multimedia team of Luke Sitter, Ryan Serbu, Mike Phillips, Brandon Wu and Craig Moleski / Matt Evans, Mark Ennis, and Ben Mcintyre for some behind the scenes help / All the kids who have our back no matter what – Jesse and Justin Bryksa, Deagan Smith, Joshua Donison, Mark Mcmorris, Tyrrell Legrand (just to name a few!)
