Any of you who still happen to follow this site knew this was coming at some point. To a slightly greater extent, any of you who have cared enough to read past the first sentence and plan on continuing, thanks for that. It is, after all, the reason I bothered to write it in the first place.
Over the last week or so, surf publications and platforms all over the world have been blowing up and sounding off on the topic of the teaser video for the upcoming Roxy Pro in Biarritz, France. Roxy has taken a rather unconventional approach to marketing this event, putting a different spin on their “trailer”.
This is the second time I have tried writing this piece because it needs to happen, but more importantly it needs to happen properly. I need to get some things off my chest and again more importantly, I need to explain a few things. I hope this comes across in a similar fashion to what I see in my head, but if not please feel free to let me know. Here goes.
In case you were under a rock the last few days, I have a newsflash for you: Mark McMorris just repeated as X Games Slopestyle gold medalist. For those of us that have been paying attention to this guy’s career it comes as little surprise. For the rest of the world it is now clear he is the heir apparent to the crown in the sport of snowboarding.
Three years ago I never thought I would be doing this. Sitting on my couch, getting ready for the X Games. I don’t remember the last time I failed to make this a part of my life, but the difference between now and say, four years ago is nothing short of incredible.
